About the Author
Lidia Matticchio Bastianich is the author of seven previous books, five of which have been accompanied by nationally syndicated public television series. She is the owner of the New York City restaurant Felidia, among others, and she gives lectures on Italian cuisine throughout the country. She lives on Long Island, New York.Tanya Bastianich Manuali received her Ph.D. in Renaissance art history from Oxford University. In 1996 she started Experienze Italiane, a travel company that arranges food, wine, and art tours to Italy. She also co-authors books with her mother, Lidia; manages Lidia's product line; and serves as the cultural and art consultant for the art series. She lives on Long Island.

This was a gift to my daughter who has other cookbooks by Lidia. It was a big hit and provides top notch recipes by the master Italian chef. Easy to follow, but you had better not be afraid of using butter and olive oil. Lidia is a wonderful practical cook who uses fresh ingredients and proves that outstanding food does not need to be complicated and time-consuming. The seller shipped fast as lightening and provided and excellent product in great condition.
I have many of Lidia's cookbooks and I rarely miss her shows on PBS, even if I have seen them a bazillion times, I always learn something new about cooking, life and family. She and I are nearly the same age and my Mom and her Mom were/are around the same age... I lost my Mom December 31, 2013, and whenever I see her Mother on the show it brings me joy and delights the memories I have of my family! This book really is about family and tradition on many many levels that culminate into her recipes that if it is on her show we can watch from beginning to end,,, and the delightful "taste" is always fun and makes me pretty darned jealous sometimes! LOVE when Grandma tastes with her!!! THis book is a treasury of recipes that are kinda familiar but have the Italian twist, the title of the book says it all... my favorites are the desserts of course and anything with cheese,,, SO I am in heaven!
Broke down and bought an actual book, I love her show and had to start collecting Lidia's books. My family loves her style of cooking, though we cut out some of the fat and cut the amount of carbs in half, but still the greatest Italian cook. She knows her flavors.
We are fortunate to have eaten several times at one of Lidia's restaurants. Many of her dishes are favorites of our family and friends. I was originally given this book as a gift. I have now purchased several as gifts for friends. The Bolognese sauce tastes like what you get at her restaurant and is particularly fabulous made into her lasagna recipe. The meatballs are a great way to serve a crowd. For parties I make a triple batch the day before, heat them in the marinara sauce and serve them on slider buns with a slice of provolone.The book is beautifully crafted with great pictures not only of the food but of the people and places highlighted in the book. The recipes are very clear and easy to follow. One of the things I like best about Lidia's recipes is that they are unique and flavorful. If you want adventure, cook your way through this book. Your taste buds will love you for it. So will your family and friends.
I watch her shows on PBS, and I just love her straightforward approach to Italian cooking. She gives you the real deal-no frilly snotty Italian diva stuff. This is Northern Italian peasant food at it's best.I don't eat meat, and there's still plenty to cook here. And you'll lose your inhibitions about what gets cooked with what-her dishes provide a pattern-you adjust to fit yourself, add your own touches.I lived in Tuscany for a couple of years when I was younger..cooking her recipes are like going back time and again.
This book was exactly as I anticipated. I had been wanting to purchase it for months since I watch the corresponding program on the TV and I am delighted to have it in hard back now so I can refer to these recipes I saw Lidia so lovingly create. I have not cooked anything out of this book as of yet due to the fact I am on a strict diet; however, this will not last forever. You can get hungry just reading it and looking at the pictures.
Book purchased for a friend, but looking through the book the recipes look amazing. Ingredients look readily available. May have to borrow it from my friend!
The book is a good companion to the TV series. While the recipes are easy to follow, they do come to life when you watch them being made during the TV program. Many of the recipes are standard fare, and possibly favorites when dining out. The commentary about the areas of the country that the recipes represent are interesting. While it is not the definitive Italian cookbook, it is a good addition to any cookbook library.
