I've been an AK Turner fan since reading Hair of the Corn Dog and, having grown up military, have always been a fan of travel. Vagabonding with Kids heightens my appreciation for both. With customary wit and humor, AK manages to inform and entertain line by line.Part how-to and part narrative nonfiction, this book makes a great bedtime, poolside, and especially airplane read.Written specifically for parents of young children, parents of older children and even empty nesters looking for vagabonding ideas will benefit from and enjoy reading this book.I'm buying another copy to give my world-traveling daughter who plans to have children some day because AK shows us that we're never too old to grow up and the best gift we can give our children is the world.
LOVED IT. Read most of it in nights after putting my own kids to bed. It's full of laughs but also super useful info about traveling with your kids into different lands & countries. It was open minded & cultural and was totally relative to my position as a parent in life. I'm giving it to all my parent friends for sure!

I absolutely loved AK Turner's latest book Vagabonding With Kids! That comes as no surprise to me since I've loved all of her books. There was a lot about this one that I could relate to as a traveler, even though I don't have children. This book is packed with good travel advice, and has laughs a plenty. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a copy of this book.
I enjoyed reading about the lived experiences of someone who is honest about the struggles and rewards of choosing a vagabonding lifestyle with children. To say something is not feasible is many times to really say it’s not worth the trouble. This book makes it clear that allowing your children to experience the world through a variety of lenses and cultures is well worth it.
What is particularly great about this book is Turner gives fantastic anecdotal advice about how to travel (with kids no less!) while breaking down conventions and every excuse you can come up with to stay at home. Not only are the essays funny, full of riotous mistakes made (so you don’t make them), it also offers sound advice and practical tips for making your travel dreams happen.
My husband and I loved this book! We love not just the idea of "vagabonding" but the actual PRACTICE of it. Unlike 99.9% of us, Amanda and Mike aren't using their kids as an excuse to stay firmly put in their comfort zone. In fact, they see adventurous travel as an integral part of raising and educating their kids. Who could argue with that??? You can't help reading this book and not become substantially inspired to....to get up and do something uncomfortable!
What a refreshing, fun, and very funny reading experience this was. AK Turner expertly addresses the many reasons given as to why travel, on this scale, can't be done. The 'can do' perspective this couple shares is both intriguing and entertaining. Their adventures are liberally dosed with lots of humor and lots of patience. Many a time Turner's hilarious observations left me laughing out loud. I look forward to her next adventure.
